Why Use a Commercial Grease Trap?
Commercial kitchens can produce significant amounts of fats, oils and grease during everyday food preparation and washing.
A grease trap works by separating fats, oils and grease from wastewater before it enters the drainage system. This helps reduce grease build-up inside pipes and lowers the risk of blockages, unpleasant odours and drainage problems.
Designed for Busy Commercial Kitchens
This 105 litre grease trap is designed for larger commercial kitchens and catering venues serving up to approximately 150 covers per day.
It provides a 100 litre-per-minute flow rate and can collect up to 20kg of grease and oil before emptying is required.
Its fully stainless steel construction provides a durable and hygienic solution for demanding commercial kitchen environments.
Installation
The grease trap is designed to be installed close to the sink or pot-wash area within a commercial kitchen.
Measuring 650 x 500 x 325mm, its compact design allows it to fit underneath or close to many commercial sink installations, subject to the available space.
The unit features 40mm inlet and outlet connections and can be incorporated into both new and existing plumbing systems.
It can also be installed further along the drainage run where required.
Easy to Clean & Maintain
Once installed, the grease trap requires straightforward routine maintenance and does not require chemicals to operate.
Collected grease and oil can be removed using the included outlet valve, after which the inside of the unit can be wiped and cleaned.
We recommend incorporating inspection and emptying of the grease trap into your regular kitchen cleaning schedule. The required cleaning frequency will depend on kitchen usage and the amount of fats, oils and grease being produced.
Commercial Kitchen Drainage Requirements
Effective grease management is an important consideration when designing and operating commercial kitchen drainage systems.
Approved Document H of the Building Regulations – Drainage and Waste Disposal states in relation to commercial hot food premises:
“Drainage serving kitchens in commercial hot food premises should be fitted with a grease separator complying with BS EN 1825-1:2004 and designed in accordance with BS EN 1825-2:2002 or other effective means of grease removal.”
Businesses should ensure that their grease management arrangements are appropriate for their premises and comply with applicable Building Regulations, water company requirements and local drainage requirements.
